Came to Louisiana in 1986 as a faculty member at Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium, appointed to faculty at University of New Orleans in 1998

Areas of expertise include coastal marsh response to sea-level rise, the contributions of fine sediments and organic material to marsh soil development, and how these are affected by human alterations to marsh hydrology

Worked on 1993 CWPPRA Restoration Plan, Coast 2050, LCA Comprehensive Plan, and 2007 State Master Plan
